So, can anyone tell me how the dogs can earn it today? Legally? If not by looks and all that..

Nope.. actually.. I'm curious as to how people think dogs can prove themselves now days. Weight pull? Hog hunting? It's a serious question.

| Sorry.. not prove.. earn it. I've heard people say different things.. and i'm just curious. How do they earn it.. ? Seems the way has swayed toward showing the dog. If not... by pedigree? | |

| Well.. I'm actually asking any member of the board. Since there are so many different views. I've actually heard some say the breed should die out since they are no longer used for their origional use.. I'd hate to see that happen though. | |

| Oh well .. I'm sure. Do you think it's gotten harder on them though? I mean.. all these yards being busted.. or raided.. even if there is no dog fighting going on. Just a large number of pit bulls these days raises suspicion it seems. What's going to happen in 10.. 20 yrs if the pressure gets higher and higher.. (if the gov't doesn't move onto another breed by then) | |

| Sure there will always be bullies, but do you not think there are enough people who breed the 'old style' dogs to keep them here? | |

| I gotta agree..this breed may not be here in 20-30 yrs. There is such a diversity in the breed and unfortunately people DO still use these dogs for fighting which will continue only to give the APBT a bad name for lack of understanding and knowing it's history and it's true image as a great family comapanion.
As for legal PROOF of a dogs worth to breed, I firmly believe that conformation SHOULD be a great way...it's SUPPOSED to look at the dog as a whole to see if it's conformation or parts of the body move and are positioned right for what they were originally bred to do...however I think that so many have gotten away from this and get blinded by what a single person/judge prefers which is how we got to the point of having such a huge diversity in the first place. I also think that dog sports i.e. weight pull/hog hunting great ways to prove a dogs worth because it shows the true potential of the dogs drive and work ability it would have shown in the fighting ring.
