MIAMI -- State legislators are gearing up to phase out vicious dog attacks in Florida and pit bulls are their target.
A new house bill threatens to ban dangerous dogs from public places, giving local governments more authority over specific breeds.
Pit bulls and pit bull mixes account for nearly a third of reported dog bites in Broward and Palm Beach counties, health officials said.

In Miami-Dade County, pit bulls and pit bull mixes are prohibited.
