According to a spokesperson at Gardina's office, Gardina has amended
the law! He's taken muzzling out, but kept the breed specific
portions in.
THAT MEANS THAT EVERYTHING ELSE APPLIES...CAGING, BEING DECLARED
DEFACTO MENACING...ETC.
He's trying to pare the bill down to something he can get the other
CMs to agree on.
Let's not let him fool us! If this bill passes, it will still cost
Animal Control $100s of thousands of dollars ANNUALLY to enforce,
both in direct and indirect costs. Breed specific law has NEVER been
proven to keep the public safe. Not even in Prince George's county.
Why? Because the vast, vast, vast majority of the dogs you
kill/muzzle/declare defacto dangerous simply by breed weren't going
to hurt anyone anyway. BSL is stinky old red herring. Let's not
fall for it.
From my calculations, this is a law that will impact at least 50,000
dogs and owners and families in Baltimore County. 49,993 of these
dogs will never be dangerous in their entire lives yet each will
needlessly suffer. Thousands of dogs will die for being declared
defacto dangerous. NEEDLESSLY. There has to be a better way to
approach this.
With this new development, I encourage you all to re-email the
councilmembers to still vote against this amended 70-07
