LORAIN, Ohio -- The debate over whether to ban pit bulls is back in the spotlight today in Lorain.
Earlier this week, a pit bull bit a 7-year-old girl in the face. She is recovering at MetroHealth Medical Center. She is listed in good condition.
Georgia Rice was playing at a friend's house when she got tangled in the dog's chain that was attached to a tree in the back yard. The dog was leashed.
Georgia will need additional surgeries to correct severe facial injuries. A police report said she suffered a large cut to her right cheek, and a finger and ear were almost torn off in the attack on Tuesday.
The safety director in Lorain said his phone has been ringing off the hook from people calling about what happened.
He said he will look into a possible ban, but there is currently no ban because the city has not been able to stand up to legal challenges.
In the latest case in Lorain, the pit bull was seven months old and was temporarily quarantined. Since, the pit bull mix was euthanized Thursday.
The dog's owner has been fined the maximum 150 dollars for not having the animal registered.
