Ready, Set...ACTION! (Picture Intense - 56k no way!)

The dogs have been going stir crazy since we had a few nasty days - that meant no walks because I don't plan on getting sick any time soon before the upcoming shows. I figured now would be an opportune time to get pictures since I roped the SO into playing with them while I snapped pics. Minor appearance by Tobi the Tubby Lab (who's not quite so tubby any more since she was put on a D-I-E-T).

First, we'll start with Luna. Luna's going to be 6 years old on May 21st and is an absolute nut when it comes to the flirt pole. She literally vibrates if she's told to wait.



"Poppa, you suck. This sucks. Let's GO!"

Then on to Ms. Lyric. Lyric's officially 15 months old. She's just as intense on the flirt as Luna, but she thinks versus chasing it. She almost out-smarted the SO a couple of times by changing directions on him.

"Mom! Get that thing over here! I want it!"

A tired pit bull is a GOOD pit bull.


Ryker (can't believe he'll be 3 years in July) is more intent on chasing, grabbing and then running some more. He's a dork. He runs his mouth the whole time and will tell you if you're taking too long to do something...

Looks fun. I know my dog would like it; I don't have a flirt pole, but I've been working on getting her to run on the treadmill.

For less than $10 and about 5 min of your time you can make a flirt pole

Mine cost me a "whopping" $2.68 at home depot!!!!!

What do I need to buy to make one?

The ones I have seen were....a piece of pvc like 6-10 foot, enough rope to put thru it, with a couple of feet extra for the "toy' end, then whatever you want to put on for the toy. It could be a favorite rope, toy, deer hide (works great)...whatever the dog would like to chase. Tie a knot in the end that you hold (so it doesn't slip thru the pvc).
Kinda imagine a fishing pole....

5' x 1/2" PVC pipe
2 washers
10' of nylon rope
Electric tape
Toy

Take the rope through the pipe, put a washer at the end of the pipe and thread the rope through. Make a tight knot, (so the rope won't pull through the washer) and electric tape it. Remember this is your handle so make it comfortable. Put the washer on the other end of the pipe and tape this end also. Tightly tie your toy of choice to the end of the rope. My dog used to get the toy (rope) off after a bit. What I did was get Harley to bite the little piece of rope on the knot and I pulled the other part of the rope. That knot is SOOOO tight.. it's not going anywhere.. lol
