Are you on this list?

Better go check... if you chain your dogs your a "dog fighter" this person has started a war with this and I intend to end it Sad

yeah, i saw it and was on it, tx to a few people making me aware of it. i gave her a good piece of my mind, and apparently i am off it now. but imo, she has NO right to compile such a list based on suspicions.
and since every post of mine was deleted, hopefully this: http://bulletins.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=bulletin.read&authorID=144587868&messageID=6087176836&MyToken=4a771a2e-4f83-429c-aa20-10dbab9b9928
will find its way to her.

anyhow, that particular blog is now gone, and there's now an "Interesting Links" up there.....

people just never cease to amaze me with their "assumptions".....

I couldn't see what you guys were talking but this person assumed if you chain your dogs you fight them? I don't chain mine because I only have three who get along and a fenced yard. I did have one we had ot chain up because she was an escape artist. She could open gates/doors and if she couldn't jump over our 6 feet fence, she'd simply crawl under it.

Prison Blues, no matter how much your dogs get along, never trust a "pit bull" not to fight. I might have misunderstood your post, so, I will ask. Do you leave them alone together in the fenced in yard?

I leave the male and female together in the backyard unsupervised. They've never had a problem. My puppy gets to go play in the yard with them if we're out there with him but he's not allowed in the yard with them otherwise. When he's bigger he's not going to be allowed in the yard with the male unsupervised though, just becuase I don;t want them fighting.

....and you own pit bulls? affraid

Rule of pit bull ownership numero uno (and the most freakin' important one!) - NEVER trust your pit bull NOT to fight. They may not start it, but heaven forbid something triggers a disagreement between two UNSUPERVISED adult dogs!

I'm sorry, but that's an absolute accident waiting to happen. My dogs don't fight and I would NEVER dream of leaving them alone...EVER. It's just stupid (regardless of breed - especially seeing as our lab has tried to kill both of the female APBTs!).

If I'm not home should I tie them up? I had a dog hang itself so I am extremely paranoid of it happening again. Or would it be ok if one was in the dog pen and the other hang out in the yard? I;m sure people are like "Wow she's an idiot" but I seriously don't know many people who don't leave their dogs in the yard like I do and we all have pit bulls.

My dogs are crated in the home while no one is able to supervise. You can do chaining, kenneling, whatever. Leaving them unsupervised for any length of time is a disaster waiting to happen.

Wait, so when you leave they are just hanging out in the yard? Oh, I'd be soooo scared someone would open my gate and the dogs would get loose some how. What if a squirrel or something came in the yard and they chased it then re-directed on each other? I am no better, my dogs stay in my apartment while i'm not home, uncrated which yes I am going to start crating one and leaving the other in the kitchen.

I would say if you chain them just make sure they have access to water, shelter, and stretch the chain out to be sure it can't reach a fence. Not just to jump over, but to dig under also and get stuck. And obviously so the dogs can't reach each other.

Definitely keep them contained separately from each other when you aren't around to supervise. Your method of containment is up to you.

Just because they haven't fought yet doesn't mean it won't happen. I'd hate to see you come in here one day, and say, "I didn't think it'd happen but it did, and so-and-so is hurt/dead."

I don't worry about somebody opening the gate since it is chained and padlocked. They'd have to take bolt cutters and I'm sure people would notice that.

I think if they're going to be separated, I will just leave one in the yard and the other in the dog pen with Dookie in the house. Reagan would drive the neighbors crazy if she was tied up.

^ GREAT idea!
and don't worry about people thinking you're ignorant regarding this~that's irrevalant....
better to error on the side of caution and keep them seperated by whichever means works best for you=chain, crate, in a room, etc. also, pit bulls LOVE to dig, so heads up and be sure they can't dig underneath your enclosure. they're very strong minded, as you know, and also, like "they" say= "locks are for honest men".... i personally wouldn't trust one to keep my dogs secure. if someone wants them bad enuff, they're gunna find a way to bust that lock....
yup, PLEASE do know the "Golden Rule" of 'pit bull' ownership= [b]NEVER trust 'em NOT to fight.
please don't learn the hard way~when it's too late....
