| I 'm reading an older (oct 07) special resport issue of Veterinary Medicine, whose main article is titled "The Euthanasia Problem, and how you can help". it goes on to say 40% of canines that are surrendered to shelters are done so due to behavioral issues. it's estimated that 3-4 MILLION animals are euthanized in US shelters annually=pretty alarming, if you ask me. and, sad, as well..... anyhow, the article focuses on how the people in the veterinary field can help to educate owners on pets with behavioral issues. so below, are links that may contain some helpful info, if you've an animal with "issues". rather than surrendering the animal(s) to a shelter, it's recommended that you try to work with your pets, in the hopes that the specific issues can be correctly determined and properly dealt with, omitting the need to euthanize that animal. www.dacvb.org www.avsabonline.org www.aspca.org/behavior www.certifiedanimalbehaviorist.com www.animalbehavior.org/ABSAppliedBehavior/resources-and-articles www.svbt.org | |
