Portland,OR -- Most people teach their dogs not to bite. But there's a time and place for everything.
The time was early this morning. The place was Troutdale.
A 19-year-old woman took her dog outside and was grabbed by a man.
That's when the dog, a pit bull, came to her rescue.
Troutdale police say the dog bit the man -- hard enough that he let the woman go.
The attack occurred about 12:50 a.m., at an apartment complex in the 600 block of Southwest 257th Avenue.
The man is thought to be 25 to 30 years old, 5-foot-10 and 170 pounds. He wore dark pants and a black hooded sweatshirt. Anyone with information is asked to call 503-665-6129.
Sgt. Marc Shrake, a Troutdale police spokesman, said it is unusual for someone to attack a person in the presence of their dog.
"Especially with it being a pit bull," he said.
The suspect was last seen running away.
