Mid Florida APBTA March 2008 Fun Show
Saturday, March 15th
Veteran’s Memorial Park, 3602 N. Hwy. 301, Tampa, FL
This month’s judge will be Mike Morgan of Old Family Reds Kennel, located in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Mike is a breeder and show exhibitor for over 23 years of the purest Hemphill/Wilder blood around. His expertise doesn’t stop with only the ‘rednose strain.’ He understands conformation and will recognize the well-conditioned APBT, so everyone should have a great time! Although Mid Florida is a sanctioned club of the American Dog Breeders Association (ADBA), and we do judge our conformation according to the ADBA standard, your APBT does not have to be registered (UKC, ADBA or etc) to participate. And, yes, the spayed/neutered pits are invited! Our monthly fun show events are open to all pit bulls, registered or not, and we encourage everyone to attend.
Mid Florida had over 60 entries last month so come on out and help make this one of our largest fun shows once again! Entry fees are very reasonable at $3.00 for a member or $5.00 for a non-member. If you have never been out to one of our fun shows before now is the time! Come check us out. Ribbons awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. Trophies for Best Puppy, Best of Opposite, Best of Show, Heavyweight Division and Most Weight Pulled over on the weight pull track.
Last month we did not have enough interest to conduct a weight pull. The weight pull cart will absolutely be out and running in March, so please bring those seasoned weight pull dogs. Newcomers to weight pull are encouraged as well. Those with experience are there to offer help and encouragement to those just learning or wanting to give it a try for the first time!
Not everyone is interested in the conformation show ring or the weight pull track but still want to do something positive with their pit bull. There are so many other activities to choose from to present our dogs in a responsible way. Carla Thomas of Ultimate K-9 Companions has been an active member of Mid Florida American Pit Bull Terrier Association for several years. She has agreed to lend her expertise by offering (on a monthly basis) obedience training, specific behavior training, or Canine Good Citizen training for a very reasonable donation to Mid Florida. The desire of our participants will determine which activity will be conducted.
Carla and some of her K-9 companions will be conducting a brief demonstration for those interested. Class size will be limited (8-10 dogs) so Carla can offer individualized attention as needed. Therefore, pre-registration, $5.00 per class, will be required to participate. For use in these classes only training collars (choke, prong, halti) will be permitted.
