| Ok, so I have a question...I have a wonderful rednose girl who LOVES puppies! (She tries to steal puppies from other litters) She just HATES being bred! She has torn one male's ear up, and tried to attack my other stud this breeding. I muzzle her, but that only makes her more angry. I don't want to retire her because she's a GREAT mom (she let her last litter nurse until they were 8 or 9 weeks! I tried to wean them by separating them...but she goes insane when you take her puppies away...she doesn't get aggressive...she just cries and tries to tear into the kennel or wherever we have them) I just feel like a horrible person when i have to leash her and hold her face while she's being bred. What should I do? Is it hopeless, should I retire her? | |

| Breeding stand would help you. How many times have you bred her? | |

| That is what I was going to say. Breeding stand, if she is a good mamma and the pups are turning out how you want, sometimes you gotta do the not so fun stuff, lol. | |

| You could also do AI since she won't stand for breeding. | |

She has been bred three times...she had a litter...was bred again but didn't take...and she is pregnant now...where is a good place to begin my search for a breeding stand?

| Why not go AI if she won't stand? Safer for the bitch and safer for the dog if she refuses to stand. | |

I never really thought about that...I mean isn't it kind of expensive...she stands...she just bites and growls and tries to attack the males...the only time she EVER shows aggression is when she's being bred!

| Yea you're right...how much does it usually run, and some of the breeders here do it themselves...is that safe? | |

Depends on the vet in your area. I'd see if you could find a reproductive specialist in your area.

| Not saying it is not the safer option, it just seems really expensive for the average person. I would check around in your area for a vet or a breeder that can help you and if it isnt feasible, I would go online and check out breeding stands. | |

Some dogs refuse to be bred because they "know what's best"... but some just dont like it :/ What are you wanting to breed her again for? It looks like you've gotten 2 or 3 litters from her already, do you still have some of the pups from the breedings?

| No I don't have any of the pups left over from her first litter...they sold really fast! Everyone really wants her puppies, and she's a great momma that loves her puppies...plus she's a great example of the breed! I've only gotten one litter out of her...she's pregnant now...but I would understand if the male we were breeding her to was the same male...but she has bit 3 different males! (her second breeding did not take) | |

| Ok so you said shes prego now....why are you worried about breeding her if she is prego.
Breeding stands are all right but if the bitch likes to buck they really are no use. I've had a few bitches move too much on those and then I've had some that dont move at all.
I do all my AI's myself. The only time I go to the vet for a breeding is if its SI. AI's usually run around $70 and up. My vet here is $80 for 2 AI's but my vet in NC was $70 for 1 AI.

| That price is not bad, I was thinking in the hundreds...I know I have had farm animals AI, what is the success rate in dogs. | |

| I'm worried about future breedings...this breeding she got so upset she tried to walk up my face when he mounted...I just wanted some options for the future...I was seriously thinking about just having her spayed...but she's a great mom! If the AI's here are that reasonably priced, I definately will bypass the breeding stand! | |

Success rate is about 70% if you do it on the right days. So getting progestrone tests done is the way to go that way you know how many eggs she is dropping. SI's have a higher success cause they cut the bitch open and insert the sperm onto the eggs. But again you have to do it on the right day when she is dropping the most eggs. SI will run you about $250 and up. Thats if the stud is there.
