Potential Pit Bull Ban for South Sioux City

"I realize Pit Bulls are the most aggressive of the breeds but they're trained that way and my problem is I think they should go after the owner rather than a specific breed of dog," says South Sioux City resident, George Quint.
It's a potential pooch prohibition. Pit bulls could soon be banned in South Sioux City, Nebraska.
Talks of passing a *Dangerous Dog* law comes just three weeks after a six year old boy was mauled by three Pit Bulls in South Sioux City. The City's Manager, Lance Hedquist, says this recent attack is not isolated, in fact, it's one of a handful that have happened in the area. Now, local officials are working hard to prevent another, potentially fatal, incident. One option is to ban all Pit Bulls and maybe even some other breeds. Another option is to require all "dangerous dogs" to be insured. A third option is to at least have the dogs licensed and tagged. Although nothing has been approved, local pet owners are speaking out against the potential ban.
"If a dog is raised with love and companionship the dog will be a loving companion. If they are raised to be aggressive and rewarded for the aggressiveness, which is what you see with these people that are breeding for dog fighting, that's wrong, that's not fair to the breed," says pet owner, Jo Carlson.
South Sioux City Council will discuss the issue again at their next meeting.
