A microchip led Maricopa County Animal Care and Control to reunite a dog lost for two years with its owner in Texas =pretty
Animal control picked up two pit bullterriers Tuesday after someone called about two loose dogs at a south Phoenix office complex. Both dogs were scanned for microchips, but only one showed up in animal control's database as a missing pet, said Aprille Hollis, a spokeswoman for animal control.
One was a 3-year-old pit bull named Piggy, who was reported stolen by his owner more than two years ago. He was to be reunited with his owner Thursday.
When the owner was contacted, she started crying, Hollis said. The owner also said she would be driving all night to pick up Piggy.
Hollis said the dogs were found with rope around their necks and are about 15 pounds underweight but have no other health problems.
"Both are very sweet," she said.
The other pit bull did not have any identification and will be held for 72 hours. After that, he'll go through rigorous testing to see whether he can be placed for adoption.
Hollis said all animals are scanned for microchips when they are brought into the facility.
Out of about 6,000 of the animals that have been returned in the past six months, almost 600 had microchips, she said.
